The NEREIS Park Conference brings together the international scientific community working on bioturbation and its role in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, across environments, latitudes and timescales. Organized within the framework of the International Nereis Park Association, the meeting provides a unique forum for researchers and students from different disciplines to explore how organisms interact with sediments and soils, how these interactions shape biogeochemical and ecological processes, and how their signatures can be traced from the geological record to present-day ecosystems.

Bioturbation: A consensus of evidence and emerging trends

Building on the spirit of previous NEREIS meetings, this 7th edition will combine scientific presentations, keynote lectures, poster sessions, workshops and open discussions around BBQ. Together, we will revisit what we know about bioturbation, identify areas where evidence is converging, and explore emerging questions, concepts and methodological approaches. We will place particular emphasis on exchanges across disciplines and generations, creating opportunities for established researchers, early-career scientists, and students to learn from one another and develop new collaborations.

Science, people and territory

This 7th edition of NEREIS Park will also invite participants to step outside the conference room and explore the territory where we are meeting. Time has deliberately been included in the program to explore the coastal environment of the St. Lawrence and reflect on the long-standing relationships between people, the land, the waters and marine resources. We believe that understanding this territory also means recognizing that its history and knowledge extend far beyond contemporary scientific observation.

More than a conference, Nereis Park is intended as a scientific gathering and shared learning experience, with time for science, discussion, discovery of the region, new collaborations and, as always, the informal exchanges that are part of the NEREIS spirit.

The Scientific Committee invites participants to submit an abstract in English for an oral or poster presentation at the 7th NEREIS Park Conference

The scientific program will be organized around five thematic sessions, combining invited talks, selected oral presentations, poster contributions and ample time for discussion and exchange. The detailed themes of the five sessions will be announced shortly. In keeping with the interdisciplinary spirit of NEREIS Park, we particularly encourage contributions that connect disciplines, environments or scales, as well as emerging ideas and approaches that can stimulate discussion within the community.

Students and early-career researchers are at the heart of the NEREIS Park community. The meeting is designed to provide them with opportunities to present their research, develop new skills, exchange ideas with established scientists, and build connections within the international bioturbation community.

When submitting an abstract, authors will be invited to indicate their preferred presentation format (oral or poster) and select the scientific session that best fits their contribution. Oral presentation slots will be limited and selected by the Scientific Committee based on the submitted abstracts. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to assign an abstract to a different session if it considers the contribution better suited to another theme. Authors will be notified of any change in session assignment.

This event will take place in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec (Canada), from May 25 to 28, 2027, at “L'Auberge de la Pointe.” This venue offers a dedicated space for sessions and workshops, as well as dining and lodging services, all in one location, with panoramic terraces overlooking the St. Lawrence River. A site visit is also planned to the Cacouna Observation Site, Putep ’t-awt, located just a few minutes from the Auberge.
